Landgut Stober Named Finalist for the German Sustainability Award 2027
Havelland-based hotel and conference venue among the finalists in the SME category – winners to be announced on 3 December.

Nauen, 3 November 2026 – Landgut Stober, located on the shores of Lake Groß Behnitz, has been named a finalist for the German Sustainability Award for Companies 2027. In the SME category (small and medium-sized enterprises), the hotel and conference venue is among the finalists in this nationwide competition. This is a special recognition for a location where the preservation of historic buildings has gone hand in hand with resource-conscious hotel operations and a distinctive approach to business management for more than two decades.
A Historic Location with a Forward-Thinking Concept
Where the Borsig family once operated a model agricultural estate, a hotel and conference venue has emerged that brings together environmental, social and economic responsibility.
Energy and water management are central to this approach: photovoltaic systems generate electricity, two woodchip heating systems provide heat, and rainwater is collected in cisterns with a total capacity of around 400 cubic metres for use in toilet flushing.
At Landgut Stober, profits are also distributed differently. Since 2017, a fixed profit-sharing model has allocated 20 per cent of profits to employees and a further 20 per cent to donations. Another 40 per cent is reinvested in the business.
“When we began restoring the former Borsig estate more than 20 years ago, our aim was never simply to build a hotel. We wanted to demonstrate that economic success, responsibility towards people and the careful use of resources can go hand in hand. Being named a finalist for the German Sustainability Award is a special recognition for our entire team and for everything we have achieved together,” says Michael Stober, Managing Director of Landgut Stober.
Independent Jury Selects Finalists
The finalists for the German Sustainability Award for Companies 2027 were selected by independent expert juries representing business, academia and civil society. The evaluation criteria include demonstrable sustainability impact, innovation and the ability to serve as a role model in the areas of climate, resources, nature, work and society.
The jury particularly recognises Landgut Stober's longstanding commitment to combining investments in energy, heating and water management with business practices guided by the principles of the common good. Special recognition is given to employee participation, professional development opportunities and flexibility in how work is organised. According to the jury, a decisive factor in selecting Landgut Stober as a finalist was the way technical and social measures work together as an integral part of daily hotel operations, rather than being treated as separate initiatives.
The winners will be announced on 3 December 2026 at the German Sustainability Award ceremony in Düsseldorf. They will subsequently represent Germany as “National Champions Germany” in the European Sustainability Award.
