Around the year 1800, then district administrator Peter Alexander von Itzenplitz had a manor house built for himself overlooking Groß Behnitzer Lake. Following continuous misgovernment and substantial debt, the property reverted to the Borsig family in 1866.
Under the management of Albert Borsig, the estate, to which further buildings had been added, was transformed into a model agrarian plant, which at the time was using the very latest technologies. In 1923 the estate spanned 2,700 hectares and was the forerunner of its time for its eco-farming methods and brick firing.
The overall estate was made up of the manor house, two distilleries, two tower buildings used as outbuildings and a smithy with adjoined stables as well as living quarters for workers.
Ernst von Borsig jun. took over management of the estate in 1933 until the end of the Second World War.
